SigenStor is a modular home energy storage platform. This guide covers the SigenStor EC 5.0 SP single-phase Energy Controller paired with SigenStor BAT 5.0 LFP batteries. The controller manages solar conversion and battery operation; the battery modules store electricity.

The platform is marketed as a five-in-one system, but optional equipment is not automatically included in every purchase. In particular, backup needs a compatible Sigen Gateway, and DC vehicle charging needs separate compatible equipment.

Pros Cons and limitations
Modular batteries allow storage to grow with household demand One BAT 5.0 module’s continuous power is limited to 2.5 kW
Hybrid controller manages compatible solar and battery storage Backup requires a compatible gateway and additional installation work
mySigen provides monitoring and supported energy-management modes Warranty has throughput, internet-connectivity and other conditions

BAT 5.0 is a model name, not its precise energy capacity. The manufacturer lists 5.38 kWh total energy and 5.2 kWh usable energy per module, with 100% depth of discharge expressed against usable capacity.

One BAT 5.0 module has a maximum continuous charge/discharge power of 2.5 kW. The 5 kW controller rating does not mean one battery can deliver 5 kW by itself. Battery quantity, state of charge, temperature and controller limits affect available system power.

At a constant 1 kW load, 5.2 kWh gives 5.2 hours by arithmetic. Actual duration depends on losses, operating settings, changing demand and battery condition. Published usable energy is measured at the beginning of life under specified test conditions.

The EC 5.0 SP controller supports up to 10 kW maximum PV power and has two MPPTs, with one solar string per MPPT. Maximum PV input voltage is 600 V; the MPPT voltage range is 50–550 V and start-up voltage is 100 V.

Maximum input current is 16 A per MPPT. These limits must be checked against the selected solar panels and string layout. The 10 kW PV rating is not a 10 kW AC output: the chosen controller’s nominal output is 5 kW.

For an existing solar installation, ask a qualified installer to assess the equipment, metering and approved configuration before confirming compatibility.

A compatible Sigen Gateway is required for backup. Purchasing the Energy Controller and batteries alone does not establish that the home will remain powered during an outage.

The controller datasheet specifies a 0 ms load-side backup disruption time when used with the required gateway and battery, under its stated test conditions. It also lists a 7.5 kW peak backup output for ten seconds for the 5 kW controller. Neither figure overrides the installed batteries’ power limits.

Ask which circuits will receive backup, what reserve will be maintained and whether solar can replenish storage during an outage. Available battery energy, continuous power and appliance starting demand determine actual backup performance.

The supplied documentation supports one to six battery modules per controller. Six BAT 5.0 modules provide 32.28 kWh total energy and 31.2 kWh published usable energy, calculated from the individual module figures.

The supplied 3–6 kW single-phase installation guide permits up to six batteries for floor installation and up to two for wall installation. Mounting strength, layout, accessories and future expansion space need professional assessment.

The documentation describes compatibility with multiple SigenStor battery sizes. Mixing modules or adding batteries later should follow the manufacturer’s current instructions and installer approval. Adding storage does not increase the selected controller’s nominal AC rating.

Stored energy can contribute to a suitably connected home EV charger. The base storage configuration is not itself a complete EV charging installation.

One BAT 5.0 battery’s 2.5 kW continuous output is below the demand of a 7 kW charger operating at full power. During normal grid-connected operation, solar or the grid may contribute the balance, subject to the approved design.

Sigenergy offers optional DC charging equipment within the wider platform. Vehicle compatibility, charging power and any bidirectional functions require confirmation for the exact vehicle, equipment and UK installation. Do not assume those functions are included with the battery and controller.

The mySigen app supports monitoring and system management. The user manual describes modes including self-consumption, time-based control and Sigen AI; availability depends on region, software and configuration.

A suitable tariff can allow charging during cheaper periods and battery use when electricity prices are higher. Results depend on tariff rates, losses, household demand and the export income forgone when solar is stored.

AI management does not guarantee a particular saving. Confirm support for the intended tariff and operating mode with the installer. Reliable internet access is important for monitoring, updates and warranty conditions.

Compare the complete installed system rather than the cost of one battery or controller. The quotation should identify EC 5.0 SP, BAT 5.0 module quantity, mounting kit, metering, protection, cabling and commissioning.

For backup, confirm the gateway model and included circuit work. List optional EV charging equipment separately. Ask a qualified installer to check battery capacity, available power, solar compatibility, property requirements and the complete installed cost before purchase.

The 5 kW controller measures 700 × 300 × 245 mm (width × height × depth) and weighs 18 kg. The BAT 5.0 datasheet lists battery dimensions of 767 × 270 × 260 mm. The controller and battery have IP66 protection, but installation still requires appropriate siting and ventilation.

The controller operating range is −30°C to 60°C, while the battery range is −20°C to 55°C. Different component limits must be respected; outdoor rating does not remove environmental or mounting requirements.

Use a qualified, trained installer to confirm the configuration, electrical supply, network requirements and backup design. Keep the equipment accessible and unobstructed, monitor alerts and arrange professional maintenance.

The battery datasheet instructs that a fully discharged battery should be recharged within seven days. Follow the applicable operating instructions and ask the installer how to manage prolonged shutdowns or absences.

The supplied European warranty dated 27 May 2025 lists ten-year product cover for BAT 5.0 and EC 5.0 SP, subject to conditions. Product cover starts at activation or, if not installed, activated and registered within 180 days of factory shipment, on the 180th day after shipment.

For BAT 5.0, the supplied performance warranty specifies 60% usable-energy retention for ten years after initial installation or until 18.20 MWh of warranted throughput is reached, whichever comes first. This should not be presented as unlimited cycles or unchanged capacity.

Internet connectivity is required for essential firmware updates. The policy states that more than ninety days disconnected triggers Safe Operation Mode, while over one year cumulatively disconnected adjusts cover to five years from the original activation date.

Keep purchase records, serial numbers and commissioning details. Ask the supplier to confirm the warranty applicable at purchase and the cover for gateway, charging equipment and installation workmanship; these should not be assumed identical.

This configuration may suit a household seeking modular storage and a 5 kW single-phase hybrid controller. Starting with one BAT 5.0 module gives 5.2 kWh published usable energy, with expansion available within the supported design.

The battery power limit matters as much as capacity. A household with substantial simultaneous loads or demanding backup requirements may need more modules or a different configuration.

Before deciding, ask a qualified installer to assess household demand, solar generation, battery quantity, backup priorities and future expansion. Compare the complete installed cost and support arrangements with alternative systems.

Question Answer
Does BAT 5.0 mean exactly 5 kWh? No. The datasheet specifies 5.38 kWh total and 5.2 kWh usable energy
Can one battery supply the controller’s full 5 kW rating? No. One BAT 5.0 module is rated at 2.5 kW maximum continuous charge/discharge power
How many batteries can be connected? The supplied documents support one to six per controller, subject to mounting and system design
Is backup included with the battery and controller? A compatible Sigen Gateway and approved backup installation are required
Is DC EV charging included? No. It requires separate compatible equipment and configuration
Should an installer assess the system before purchase? Yes. A qualified, trained installer should confirm compatibility, battery quantity, solar layout, network requirements and backup scope

Consider household electricity use, solar generation and EV charging together. Compare usable storage, battery power, controller output, backup equipment and the complete installed cost before choosing a system.
